Danette Swanson Glassy - For 25 years Dr. Danette Swanson Glassy has been a primary care pediatrician at Mercer Island Pediatrics near Seattle. For the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) she is co-chair of the Executive Committee of the Council on Early Childhood, and a member of the Head Start National Center on Health Advisory Committee. She is Co-Editor of the third edition of Caring for Our Children: National Health and Safety Standards for Out-of-Home Care, 3rd Edition and the spin off Stepping Stones to Caring for Our Children. She also serves as the Chapter Child Care Contact (CCCC) in Washington State and mentors other CCCCs. Dr. Glassy advocates for quality environments and experiences for young children by lobbying, tweeting (@GlassyMD) and facilitating community projects. Much of this work is in collaboration with the Washington Chapter, AAP (www.wcaap.org) as the Early Learning Committee Co-Chair, with the Coalition for Safety and Health in Early Learning (www.cshelwa.org) and as a board member of BestStart Washington (www.beststartwa.org). Rick Fiene - Dr. Rick Fiene has spent his professional career in improving the quality of child care in various states, nationally, and internationally. He has done extensive research and publishing on the key components in improving child care quality through an early childhood program quality indicator model of training, technical assistance, quality rating & improvement systems, professional development, mentoring, licensing, risk assessment, differential program monitoring, and accreditation. Dr. Fiene is a retired professor of human development & psychology (Penn State University) where he was department head and director of the Capital Area Early Childhood Research and Training Institute.
