About Kim Halfhill

What’s your role at NARA and what do you find most rewarding about it?
I serve as NARA’s Events Manager.  My primary responsibility is planning our Annual Licensing Seminar.  It’s an honor to create opportunities for learning and connection for our members, who serve some of the most vulnerable populations.

In one sentence, explain NARA’s mission to someone outside the industry?
NARA supports providers and professionals who establish and implement the licensing regulations which keep children and adults safe in care settings like child care centers, adult care, and the child welfare system.

How long have you been with NARA?
My role with NARA began in the fall of 2022.

What’s your favorite part of your job?
I absolutely love being onsite for our Seminar!  I enjoy being with our staff and the Seminar attendees and seeing all the details from months of planning come together.  Plus, I really thrive in the fast-paced rhythm of Seminar days.

If you could trade jobs with anyone at NARA for a day, whose role would you want to try and why?
I would love to swap jobs with Sonya and learn more about the world of licensing as a whole.

What’s the most common misconception people have about the regulatory world?
I’ve heard people say that regulators aren’t “fun.”  They clearly haven’t met our members!

When you’re not keeping things compliant, what’s your favorite way to unwind or recharge?
I love books, Mickey Mouse, and travel.

What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had working at NARA so far?
In 2022 when NARA’s Seminar was in Palm Springs, our welcome reception was on the rooftop overlooking the city.  It’s hard to beat that!

What’s a “fun fact” about you that no one would guess just by looking at your regulatory resume?
My undergraduate degree is in music.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
It’s hard to pick!  My Dad used to always say “better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it.”  Both of my parents taught me to listen first and choose my words carefully.  This advice continues to serve me well as a parent and a professional.
