Resources for Furloughed Federal Employees

If you’re affected by the government shutdown, there are resources available to help you navigate this time. Below is a list of financial institutions, lenders, and service providers offering special programs, assistance, and relief options for impacted federal and government employees.

Financial Assistance

  • USAA: Offering no-interest loans up to one paycheck (maximum $6,000) for eligible active-duty and federal employees. Loans include 90-day repayment terms and are available to members with a direct deposit in a USAA account within the last 30 days. Most funds are issued within 24–48 hours.

  • Chase Bank: Providing a dedicated support line for government employees affected by the shutdown.

  • Congressional Federal Credit Union: Offering a Relief Line of Credit and additional assistance programs.

  • FedChoice: Providing various support options for existing and new members.

  • Navy Federal Credit Union: Special loan program available for furloughed federal workers.

  • PayPal: Allocating $25 million to fund interest-free cash advances for furloughed federal employees.

  • FEEA–NARFE Fund: Offering $100 grants to active federal employee members who are not receiving pay.

  • TSP Plan News: Providing regular updates and information on available financial assistance.

Auto Loan & Lease Relief

  • Toyota/Lexus Financial Services: Customers in good standing may qualify for up to two months of payment extensions or lease deferrals.

  • AT&T: Assisting with payment extensions, late fee adjustments, and flexible payment schedules.

  • Sprint: Offering short-term payment solutions. Call 888-211-4747.

  • T-Mobile: Providing temporary relief and the ability to spread out service payments over time. Call 877-746-0909 or dial 611 from a T-Mobile device.

  • Verizon: Offering flexible payment options through its “Promise to Pay” program. Call 866-266-1445.

Insurance & Life Coverage
  • MetLife Auto & Home: Providing a one-time, 30-day grace period on auto and home policy payments. Call 800-GET-MET8.

  • Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company: Waiving cost-of-insurance charges for the next 30 days to keep policies active.

    • Policies beginning with “Y”: 844-800-9146

    • All other policies: 888-513-8797
